z axis retracting
« on: August 21, 2010, 11:09:28 AM »
hello all,
I'm new to CNC, and am having some fun with a new Syil X4 mill. I finally got clamps today, and tried out one of the bolt array wizards, with 6 holes, .5" depth and .25" rapid clearance. On the screen it did what it was supposed to, down .5", up .75", move to next hole, but the mill did not return up after drilling. it ended up moving 3" downward (it was a test, so i had lots of clearance!). I'm wondering if this is a problem with my mill, or if there is something I did not configure in mach. Jog and homing work fine, which makes me wonder if it is not properly configured. Thanks!
Edwin

If the DROs in Mach and the toolpath show things correct then it sounds like your Z Axis may be stalling, did you hear an unusual noise from the motor?
Command some rapid moves in the Z Axis from the MDI line  ( eg G0Z1, G0Z0) and see if it behaves properly.
