Mach3 with STB5100
« on: December 25, 2019, 08:45:16 AM »
Hi,
I have a Workbee CNC machine that I intend to use with Mach3 and the STB5100 motion card. At first, the machine tried to move diagonally along the Y-axis. I have 2 motors setup on that axis. Firstly, the motor tuning between the 2 motors weren't in sync which caused a misalignment when I told the machine to go home. So, I set the same Steps for both which infact reduced the misalignment from 0.0363mm to 0.0034mm. So, I thought that if I increase the steps again but just by 1 to 301, it would solve the problem. However, it didn't. Now one side of the gantry just stops moving while the other doesn't. Eventhough, I reset the steps to 300 it just keeps doing it.

So my questions are:

How do I get the machine to run properly?
How do I get the machine to return to home as (0,0) even on Mach3? :)

wondering if you ever got your stb5100 working with mach3? i bought the same board, me and a few others are having an issue where it is freezing after finishing a move. just trying to figure out if I should buy a different board. thank you

I am also having this issue. I just bought a pokey board to hopefully fix this issue.

Setting up with the STB5100 also. I should of done a bit more research on the boards. So far I can ref home, jog around. Loaded a couple of G-Codes, not convinced it's doing the full job. Spindle isn't set up yet. I can run it manually but finding it difficult to find information on how to run it from MACH3. I dont think I have the right 'pins' entered. Did anybody figure out this step yet?  Thanks

you wouldnt be happening to be running a TB6560 stepper motor driver ?? If so it may be because you havent setup microstepping. The controller itself doesnt have pins its the stepper motor board. The pins setup the microstepping in my case 1/8th was the trick.

Hi, thanks for the reply. The driver I'm using the TB6600 4 axis driver. The stepper motors are working fine. It's the communication from Mach3 to the VFD that I haven't figured out yet. Difficult to find more documentation. I was looking to make sure I had the right pin number because it's connected to FWD and AVI. I'll go through the supplied manual again.

You might want to check out Drufel cnc.com go to the menu button and go to supported controllers. I know drufel cnc is not what you are using but there is a ton of helpful docs on the website about what you are asking

that controller does not work in slave configuration
to sync dual y axis stepper motors you need to split/share signal wires that go from the breakout board to each individual stepper driver unit.

as ive been running mine like that for over a year now on small machine, and just looking now after a machine upgrade to find a new breakout board to swap from the stb5100 that supports slave so i can get auto gantry operation working as intended
