UC100 and Taig Controller Spindle On Issue
« on: December 14, 2020, 11:49:24 AM »
Hi Guys,

I've chunked about 40 hours trying to figure out how to get the M3 command to turn on the spindle for my taig cnc.

My setup is Mach4 (windows 10) --> UC100 --> Microproto DSLS 3000 controller --> Taig CNC 5019 DSLS.

Initially I tried setting the Mach4 outputs 1 and 2 to pins 16 and 17 on the UC100.

Then I tried setting Mach 4 spindle on output to UC100 port1 pin 16.

Then I tried playing around with the UC100 diagnostics. It only has step/dir and PWM settings. I don't think this taig spindle is either. It is just a fully on or fully off spindle. Of note when in the UC100 diagnostics, if I set either the spindle dir or pwm pin to pin 16 and check the negative box the spindle turns on permanently.

Can anyone with a similar setup help me out here?

Do I need to tell the Mach4 output and UC100 plugin to the same thing? Do I ignore the UC100 plugin and just pick the right Mach4 output somewhere? I can jog the X,Y,Z axis around no problem. I just cannot toggle the M3/M5 or M4/M5 buttons.

Thanks for any help.

Finally fixed my own problem.

I set:
  • Mach4 output --> spindle forward to UC100 device with pin16 output
  • In UC100 spindle settings I left PWM and dir pin as blank

That's a good tip!
I also spent hours banging my head against the wall, trying to get the UC100 to play nicely with Mach4.  I eventually gave up & used UCCNC on that machine (Plasma) which worked OK.  Maybe I'll have another go!

Thanks Brian.
In my case, it turned out my UC100 was too old and wasn't properly compatible with the Mach4 Plugin, though it worked OK with Mach3 originally.  Using the UCCNC software seemed the easiest option - and actually for a plasma, it's fine.
