G76 Lathe Threading?
« on: October 01, 2020, 08:08:49 PM »
Hi All
I have read on the Smooth Stepper forum that G76 lathe threading doesn't work with some of the development versions of Mach 4. Is this still correct or has it been fixed in the later development versions?
Thanks
Steve

I think we are still in the situation where various Mach4 development versions are paired with ESS builds and there is not a simple answer as to which 'pair' works best.

It is certainly not crystal clear which 'pair' to choose for laser working either.

Thanks Tweakie
I use a HiCON Integra on the lathe, but read the smooth stepper forum as I have a smooth stepper on my mill. I was wondering if the G76 issue is a Mach 4  one or a smooth stepper one. I guess I might just do some air cuts today and see if it works.
Thanks again
Steve

Hi All
I run some test cuts over the weekend and can confirm that when I try to run G76 Mach4 freezes. I don't often have to cut threads but when I do it would be handy to be able to. I have made some improvements to my control panel using the PMC to handle the signals from it and I am not sure that it will still work if I go back to version 4300 as the PMC has changed since then.

You could try G32 or G92

Thanks Graham
The included lathe wizards only output G76 (as far as I can tell) and if you want to build a part using the wizards it is just a complication that can lead to an error, I could do the other threading codes by hand as they are not too hard to do and insert them into the generated Gcode - it would just be nice to have a system that worked properly.
