7766 and Gecko GR214V Feedback?
« on: December 28, 2018, 06:01:20 AM »
Hi,

I recently bought a 7766 and a couple of Gecko GR214V. On the 214 there is two outputs Error and Full Step feedback, 5V TTL signals. Is there any way I can get them into the 7766 and use them in Mach4? Well the Full Step feedback is really not an encoder, but it would be nice to have that as a feedback for step count.

Regards,
Kjell

The I/O on the Integra is +24V PNP. You will need to convert the +5V to +24V to use those signals.

Understand that the 7766 has 24V input. Is there any commercial board available that can be used? Or do I need to design one myself?

The outputs on the Gecko drive look like they are open drain collector type.

With these outputs it should be possible to just connect them to the 3.3V TTL inputs at the DB15 port connection on the Integra (J10).

The inputs you can use on the DB15 port are at pins 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15.

Those input pins map to the P14 inputs in Mach4.

9  -  P14 IN6
10 - P14 IN7
12 - P14 IN14
13 - P14 IN5
14 - P14 IN3
15 - P14 IN1

You can connect the GND from CN2 connector to pin 11 on the DB15 port.

Thanks for the reply.

But I would still need to level shift the 5V TTL from the 214 to 3.3V to the J10? Right?

According to the manual for your Gecko drive, the outputs are open drain collector type.

So, you do not need to level-shift the outputs to 3.3V.
