Poll

Of all the people out there that have a system with two parallel ports, how many have the second port wired with pins 2-9 as inputs vs. having them wired as outputs?

On my second port, pins 2-9 are used for inputs.
13 (68.4%)
On my second port, pins 2-9 are used for outputs.
6 (31.6%)

More inputs or more outputs, you decide.

OK guys, This is a question for all. This is going to help guide the development of a new product, so please vote. If you don't use a second port, still vote as to what you would like to see, more inputs, or more outputs. I know, more of both. But, if you had to choose, which would it be?

"if you had to choose one" it would be a UBS port capable of handling both. I know that not on your poll. But you asked

Right you are LSD, Hmmmmmmmm, that didn't come out right.

All jokes aside, you are exactly right. That is the plan actually, more of each but it will most likely be heavier on one than the other so keep this in mind while casting your vote.

You are the first one to pick up on  that. It is my little joke

Hi Brett, I reckon I could use a few more inputs......then I could fit a whole lot more switches on my mill!!!! When will it ever end?

I take it you are designing a USB to parrallel port type of output - or a card to fit in the computer to give x and y numbers or inputs and outputs.

If Mach3 is designed for 6 axis we need two outputs for each (12) then outputs for spindles (2 or 3) spindle speed ???? (?) and then coolant (2) - we are on about 17 there - so might as well make it 24 ( 3 x 8) or 32 ( 2 x 16)

Inputs - 3 per axis (18) and I would think another 14 on top of that to bring us up to 32 would suffice.

If the finished card - had 32 inputs and 32 outputs I would have thought you could cater for all of Mach3 requirements.
Not me driving the engine - I'm better looking.

HI, I feel that there should be about twice as many inputs as outputs, I would like to add a auto tool changer and a probe. in the future.

What would be needed so Mach could regulate the voltage across a plunge type EDM machine, using a stepper to move the electorde?

What I would like is an in/out card that catered for 2 parallel ports with a choice on the second for pins 2-9  ins or outs and a serial port connection for extra outputs...

Oh and perhaps a small programmable controller so we could configure a tool-changer without Mach doing all the work in a VB script.

and.. and.. and..   ;D

Or could the USB could manage all this?

Thanks for the replies guys, and the votes. I can't talk about what it will be or how many of what, or all you'll be getting, but it is certain to please the masses.  ;D
