Mach4 Warp9 ESS NEMA 34 spindle readout dro?
« on: January 22, 2018, 08:41:10 PM »
I have built a PRO4848 kit from CNCRouter Parts,
NEMA  34 electronics (Warp9 ESS board) with GMT M23 2.2Kw spindle.
The GMT M23 spindle has temperature sensing but no index pulse output.
Using PWM control in the Warp9 ESS.

The machine is now up and running under Mach4 (a tedious process interpreting the Mach3 xlm file), but I do not have any spindle speed readout on the Mach4 screen.
Spindle Encoder count not changing in ESS diagnostic window?
What am I missing in the setup?

Many thanks to all the contributors on the forum from whom I have gleaned invaluable information as a guest over the last couple of months to get my machine up & going, especially to DasTheGas for his tutorials on Mach4.

Thanks in advance for any constructive advice.

Hi,
if you wish the ACTUAL spindle speed to be measured you need an index pulse so Mach can read the time between pulses
and calculate the speed. You would need to fit an index pulse circuit to your spindle.

If you aren't over worried about accuracy the just have Mach display the commanded speed. Unless the spindle is in big trouble it
will never be more than a few percent different to commanded speed.
