The M7/M9 commands are too slow for switching - it will create a 'dot' at the start and end of every line engraved. The M11/M10 commands were created to overcome this problem and that is really the direction you should be taking.

Thanks Tweakie. Agreed. I was wondering how the OP finally solved his problem. He had an MX4660 and went the M10.M11 route (I think). There are no new problems in CNC setting up. Just new people trying to solve the same old problems.

I didn't even know the M10/M11 commands existed until I read your earlier comments to the OP. When I get to work, I will research the topic in the Mach 3 manual. What I will need to do is switch on/off the 12vdc power supply probably using the M7/M9 combination and when ready do the laser with M10/M11 commands. I have the port 2 activated so I have lots of inputs & outputs. Need to do research how to make it all work with the MX4660. Thanks for your suggestion.
