Text / engraving problem.
« on: July 02, 2017, 04:13:28 AM »
Hi all

I'm Mike Grant from Darwin Australia.  Im a builder that did a metal machining apprenticeship later in life.  About two years ago I built a cnc milling machine and have not had a great number of issues getting it going.  I mainly make 'Pugs' for carbon fibre moulding.

My problem is this - I generate the Gcode for the text in Bobcat - all the tool paths work perfectly in the simulator.  I save it as an .nc.  I open it in Mach 3 and all is good except on some letters about 3/4 the way down the run it will move across to the other side of the run and then return up leaving all the letters with straight ends (ie. capital E ) with thin ends on the arms.  I have changed lots of things in Bobcat and all is good in the simulator but it still happens in Mach3.

Any ideas?  Thanks all in advance.

PS I'm just wanting to engrave some termination tags for an electrical board.

Welcome to the forum.

If you .zip then attach a sample of the Gcode you are having the problem with then it can be tested to try to locate the issue.

I suggest you download FREE F-engrave from http://www.scorchworks.com/Fengrave/fengrave.html
G-codes created for text from F-engrave works correctly on Mach 3.

To speed up engraving also download third party created FREE "CAMBAM stick fonts" (those TTF are not made by CAMBAM) for use with F-engrave and the WRITE wizard of Mach3.

I use BobCAD and of course mach3.

I have had those issues in the past with earlier versions of BobCAD. I currently use V25 and have had no real issues.

When I did have issues, i would check out my gcode using descriminator (http://www.cncedit.com/). I often found random swirls and such.

Sometimes I was unable to fix the problem and would need to start fresh with a new file.
