Z axis motor going crazy (need help)
« on: June 19, 2017, 09:23:36 PM »
I have had my machine for a year now and have been running it a lot though out the year. I have had not problems till a few days ago my z axis motor started to act up. It basically will go up sometimes then it will go down! then it will got down when is is supposed to go up then up when it is supposed to go down. Then it will work fine for a split second then do it again.... I re-wired everything so it is not the wiring, I then went into motor tuning and turned everything way down and it is still going crazy. Is my motor bad? do I just need a new motor? has anyone else had this problem?

Don’t remember if it’s on this forum but I read a similar case and the problem was a metal sliver worked its way into the wire of an axis and with the vibration of the machine sometimes was creating your situation.

If all wiring looks good perhaps you can swap the driver from another axis to eliminate it’s not the driver and then do the same with the motor

I think that it might be a heat problem, it had been really hot here for the past few days and I have been running my machines a lot. I have two of the same machines and one started having this problem a few days again, just today my second machine is having the same problem... you think it could be caused by the heat? I will switch out the motor for a new one to see if the heat just killed the motor, I hope it didn't affect my driver. But I need to get things up and running fast I run a small business off of these machines and I need them up and running! If anyone has suggestions for me to try please let me know!

Hi,
if your running them for a business and you are of the opinion they're running to hot then replace them with bigger and more capable
units. Or just leave them until they blow up and see how fast you could jack up some alternatives then!
