1st setup, Mach3 not moving in right scale
« on: February 21, 2017, 09:48:28 PM »
I have setup Mach3 and completed the autocalibraton in the settings screen.  I have it dialed in and is pretty much accurate at 408 steps per unit.  When I try to cut a test such as the roadrunner file, it is only about the size a dime smaller.  Anyone got suggestions?

Are your steps per unit in mm or inches? What kind of machine you have?

Using MM, its a CNC 3040.  I had been using it for about 8 months with TinyG and Chilipeppr.  TinyG just died yesterday, they had a bad batch of them released with incorrect lock bits, so will be sending back to have reflashed.  I bought an all in one breakout board and driver system a while back, and figured this was the perfect opportunity to covert over to Mach3.  The system is this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/Professional-4-Axis-CNC-Stepping-Driver-TB6600HG-Box-Set-LCD-Display-Keypad-5A-/401278390859?hash=item5d6e0e524b
All axis jog properly and have been through the calibration, its just when trying to cut anything is (really) small, maybe 10mm for the roadrunner gcode.  Could it be something with steps?  I have it set to 1/8 steps although it could do 1/16.

The Roadrunner file was created in Inch units but just to fool us all the creator did not include a G20 at the start of the code.

If you use notepad to edit the file and add G20 it will run correct size on a machine which is set-up in millimeter units.

Also tried a file which I had made in Vectric Aspire that is done in MM, still same result.

Dave, when you created the file in aspire, what post processor did you use to create the gcode?
its actually pretty simple to look at the code and you can tell what mode its in.   Do you have alot of high numbers?  25, 200, ect or are they small numbers like .5, 1, ect.

Got it! turns out the roadrunner gcode is made really small.  My files are attempting to cut the correct size now. Machine is stopping on some gcode, not sure why.  Time for another thread!  Thanks for the help

Not quite.

The Roadrunner Gcode produces a product that is approx. 7 1/2 inches by 6 1/2 inches.

Try some of the Gcode files from the .zip folder here : http://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php/topic,18345.msg126486.html#msg126486 they should come out correct size as I have included the G20 / G21 (as appropriate) so they work just the same with machines that have been set-up in Metric or Imperial units.
