Lets pick an encoder
« on: May 31, 2007, 03:24:44 PM »
Hi guys, I have a bp series II changing over to servos. the motors I am using are (servodisk jr16 x3) (nice snag) specs 3000 rpm 7.8 amps 168vdc 31"# torque should make a nice setup. Will start with the geckos I have then, switch to viper 200 drives. Looking for the best compromise between speed and resolution, should have enough power. need to order the right differantial encoder cpr for this setup to get the max i can. using mach3 and ncpod. stepdown ratio 2/1 or 3/1. tkanksĀ  gary

If you run 1000 count encoders you will end up with .0005 resolution and about 120IPM speed. for most parts that is plenty fast enough for old iron. I run 2000 count encoders at .00002 resolution and about 60 IPM tops then Mach runs out of steam at 45hz kernal speed. Still faster than the 2 hp spindle can keep up with with .

THat is at 1:1 drive ratio.

The choice is yours. (;-) TP

what is the max KHz/Mhz of the pod?
What pitch are the ballscrews?

Pod Max KHz = 75

and I like to run 500 line encoders... on a .2 per rev screw you are looking at .2 /(500*4) = .0001 and for the milling that I do here at the house that is okay ;)
Fixing problems one post at a time ;)
