Got a new computer now my machine wont work.
« on: May 03, 2016, 12:29:34 AM »
Alight so I have mach3 and am running my cnc mill with a gecko g540. I have been running this with an old xp computer and wanted to upgrade to a better computer that is running windows 10. So I bought one and whiched everything over to the new computer and had no problem installing mach3 and I imported my XML file so that all the setting would be the same. But when I open up mach3 and go to move the machine nothing happens! I have tried everything! I have changed the parallel port mode in the bios to EPP and then to ECP and then to PS/2. Non of this worked so I tried messing around with the ports in mach3 but nothing seems to work! when I start up my computer I can here the motors engage but when I open up mach3 nothing! I have been working at this all day and can not figure it out. Does anyone have any ideas?

From my understanding Mach3 wont work on windows 10.
Only Windows 7 32bit and older.

Try that, and let us know what happens.

I just upgraded my computer as well. Went from WinXP to Win7(32bit) and running as good as before.

Unfortunately Mach3 does not support parallel port operation with a 64bit OS or on systems running Win10.

Requirements if using the parallel port for machine control:

Desktop PC (Laptops are not supported) with at least one parallel port
32-bit version of Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 (64-bit versions will not work)
1Ghz CPU
512MB RAM
Non-integrated Video Card with 32MB RAM(Large G-code files, especially 3D files will require a video card with 512MB RAM or higher)

Requirements if using an external motion device for machine control:

An appropriate external motion controller (options can be found on the Plugins page)
Desktop or Laptop with Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 10
1Ghz CPU
512MB RAM
Video Card with 32MB RAM(Large G-code files, especially 3D files will require a video card with 512MB RAM or higher)

There are many options and choices of different 'external motion controllers' and many are shown on the plugin's page http://www.machsupport.com/software/plugins/
You may also wish to consider that some will only work with Mach3, some with Mach4 and some with both Mach3 & Mach4 (using a dedicated plugin).
