KL - 4030 + Nema 24 8 lead Wiring Help
« on: April 28, 2016, 10:42:38 AM »
Hey guys, this is my last resort. I've printed 5 different wiring schematics, used the automated technology instructions, Youtube, and other website links for any help. I still can't get the Nema 24 working. This is my first try at converting my mill to cnc so I bought all the equipment for 1 axis, X and wanted to test the wiring and motor through Mach3.

Here is what I bought. KL-4030 driver, KL-db25 BOB with Mach3 with relay and PWM spindle, and a Dual Shaft Nema 24 100mm 4Nm(566 oz.in).

I've tried wiring bipolar parallel, and series using the wiring from the site where I bought the motor. I used automated technologies wiring instructions in addition to wire the driver, BOB, and power supply. I set up mach3, with just the single X axis just as explained in many videos. I have to say I don't think it's a Mach3 set up issue. It seems pretty straight forward for 1 axis. I have the emergency stop wired correctly, that's the only part I know for sure because I can test that wire and it will emergency stop in Mach3. I'm using XP 32 bit and have attached all the wiring instructions used.

What am I doing wrong, or am I missing? Is there a compatibility issue with the driver/motor/bob? Any help is really appreciated.

Thanks
Tyler

The KL-4030 has DIP switches, did you set them as per the manual which is available at Keling?

I believe I do.  I have it set for 1/8 step, and since my current wiring configuration attempt is Bipolar series, which is 2.12 rated current/phase, which would be 0,0,1,1,1,0,0.   Based on the schematics I've downloaded at least.  Does that seem correct?

The KL-4030 has a light somewhere to indicate it has power. Is this light ON?

Have you put the right number on the Mach3 motors tuning? (Bottom left corner on the screen where it says "Steps
 per"

If the light is ON and the motor is warm to touch perhaps the motor wiring is wrong or the connections to the BOB is wrong or the parallel port does not have all pins thru.

You can verify that the parallel port is ok by checking continuity on each pin, tidius but douable as I have done it many times

Actually no, the light flashes on for a second but goes back off.  I called automated technology and asked if that was normal and he said yes so I didn't think anymore about the light.  So light is not staying constant on.

I dont have the 4030 any more but the answer they gave you I think its wrong. The light is there to tell you that power is ON and it should stay ON. Check the voltage of your power supply unit and then check the voltage on the 4030 when the light is OFF. If you have no voltage perhaps that's your problem

Yes after consulting with another guy, you are correct. The light should remain on when power is on. We tested voltage and it's dropping at the driver. So I ordered a better driver and will be sending that one back.
