If your running Windows 10 Pro (Control Panel/All Control Panel Items/System) visit http://www.howtogeek.com/224471/how-to-prevent-windows-10-from-automatically-downloading-updates/

If you installed the 'Free' upgrade it should be Pro. Warning: If you have a DVD/CD drive using the ATA connector Windows 10 can not access it. This means you have no means to make a Restore disc so backing up a system image is wasted time.

I am just setting up Mach4 on Windows 10. IT works and so far i have no troubles when rundning the machine BUT all the other stuff is giving me a LOT of pain. I believe there are still LOTs of bugs to be fixed before W10 with mach4 is ready for production use. Loads of hands on fixing in scripts is required (hobby screen), for me ESS plugin is far from ready ( unreliable startup, config changes tend to make ESS lose sync, limit switch hysteria hangs ESS, creating profiles not based on the default can led to corrupt configs and  LOTs of displayd errormessages during mach configuration (effects are unknown...), open filĂ© dialog problems when having special folders like g-drive etc.)

Non of this is verified by NS nor have the issues been reported by me but It is to much to be all me .

None of the bugs/errors have had serious or potential serious effects like machine going bezerk but still - feels shaky.

I am trying to locate all errors but same system same PC same stup config values on win7 mach3 has had 0 issues so far.

But i believe in Mach4 and w10 - just not yet. My reason for going with w10 now is development....

Just my two cents....

Just for info: I have reinstalled the entire PC with a non upgrade version of win10 latest release of Mach4 and latest ESS plugin. I edited the default mill profile to match my machine and most of my issues are gone. I have not started mach3 since and am now happily using mach4.

There are still issues with features and stuff not related to the actual running of loaded g-code. Some annoying ones are hitting the limitswith hangs ess 3 times out of 10, hack required to fix screen spindle speed, some default value of spindle pwm in machine.ini has to be edited to 950 instead of 1000 which slightly throwsmax spindle speed down 1/400th,
On some errors ess jus does not keep up and loses sync- but has not happend once a program runs, probing takes lots of manual work in scripts to make work etc.

Do i trust mach4 - Yes.
Do i trust ess plugin - Almost :D
Do i miss the missing features? yes!

Just to let all know if anyone cares...

I have Windows 10 Pro on 3 different machines. 2 I upgraded from Windows 8.1 Pro and 1 came with Windows 10 Home.
Now on the machines that were upgraded from Windows 8.1 ,I installed Mach4 before upgrading and 1 I did not.
The 1 machine that I upgraded without previously installing Mach4 will not install the Plugin for Mach4.
The machine I installed Mach4 and the plugin before upgrading works just fine.
Now I can schedule any updates the software wants to install or says it needs to reboot so  updates are no problem with Windows 10 Pro.
Hope this helps someone.

I was running Mach4, lisenced, on Windows 8.1 (x64) Enterprise. Everything was fine.

I updated the operating system to Windows 10 (x64) Enterprise and now the lisence is not longer valid.

After checking in Mach4, Help -> About, i saw that a new PC-ID was created.

PC-ID Windows 8 MCH-70CCD9F3-EF5B-D479-496-BB78D25434
PC-ID Windows 10 MCH-81BE6B21-0B00-DE7C-8E64-609E0B6BB2F8

Don't know why but it is so.

Best regards,
Gerhard

PCID is based on the PC configuration.  New OS means new configuration, therefore new PCID.

After several Problems is deinstalled Mach4. I made a new installation auf Mach4.
Everything is the same, nothing changed.
Now i'm wondering why it is like this:

PC-ID Windows 8 MCH-70CCD9F3-EF5B-D479-496-BB78D25434
PC-ID Windows 10 MCH-81BE6B21-0B00-DE7C-8E64-609E0B6BB2F8   --> ID after Update

PC-ID Windows 10 MCH-70CCD9F3-EF5B-D479-0496-BB78D2054304   --> ID after reinstalled Mach4
The PC-ID is the same like bevore!

I do not unterstand this, but i don't care about. ;D ;D
