Mach 3 Driven Wire Straightener Stopping Issue
« on: October 15, 2015, 08:14:23 PM »
Hello,

We are using Mach 3 with a looped G-code program to  operate a two axis sequence continuously for 8 hour stretches.

We have an issue where the Mach 3 stops every 45 - 60 minutes. The reset button has to be pressed and it starts up fine again.

It is happening more and more frequently.

Be glad of anybody's comments.

Thanks.

Is there anything reported in the STATUS line ?

Watchdog ? ?  turn it off.
E-Stop ? ? ?   Noise ? ? ?  correct/eliminate it.

It just says 'External Emergency Stop requested'  or something close to that.

Try increasing the Debounce Interval (Config. / General Config.) to 2000 or so.

If this reduces or cures the problem then you need to look for the source of the problem which could well be electrical noise pickup from your Inputs wiring. Check that good quality, shielded, cable is being used and that the shield is connected to Earth at the controller end only - also check the quality of your switches and perhaps fit a 0.1uF miniature capacitor between each used Input and Earth at the controller end.

Also, as Russ said, make sure 'Use WatchDogs' is unchecked (Config. / General Config.)

Hope this helps.

I am pleased you have got it sorted.

Please remember that increasing the Debounce is a fix a bit like a sticky plaster you really should find the root cause and cure that.
