tool diameter did not change
« on: September 21, 2015, 08:10:15 PM »
Very strange.  I was using two tools, a 1/8 and a 3/16 end mill.  I began to drill with the 1/8 mill. When Mach 3 stopped to change the tool, I changed the tool to the 3/16, but forgot to change the tool number in Mach 3. After a few minutes of running and making pockets, I realized what I had done and stopped the machine. This time I set Mach 3 to the 3/16" tool and began to cut the pocket from the start. To my surprise, the profile was the same, that is, the 3/16 tool pretty much followed the same profile as the 1/8" tool.
There was no difference in the cut. How does one explain it?

Either the g-code is using cutter compensation, or you're just not noticing the 1/32" difference.
