Help request - Siemens synchronous servo motors
« on: March 16, 2015, 06:45:13 PM »
Could anyone help me, i have some Siemens synchronous servo motors 1FK7042-5AF71, i would like to use these to convert a small milling machine to CNC using Mach3.
Unfortunately I don't seem to be able to find how to drive these motors.

Any help or links would be greatly received

Thanks in advance

Mike

They are AC servos so you will need a drive capable of driving AC Servos.
Problem will be finding one that is compatible with these specific motors which will likely mean you will need to look at Siemens servo drives.
Some AC drives can be configured for "custom" motors but that will all depend on the specs of the motors and more importantly the feedback on the motors.
For example the Allen Bradley DSD drives have the option to configure custom motors but you need either 5v incremental encoders or Sine/Cosine smart encoders, not sure what your motors have. If they have resolvers or some other form of encoders then the DSD drives would be no use.
