Pulse Coder- Way too many wires!
« on: March 11, 2007, 03:05:14 AM »
Hi all,

So I was tearing my machine apart and strategizing my retrofit today.  Things were going along fine until I took a close look at the wires coming from the pulse coder.  I was expecting anywhere from 4 to 8 wires depending on what type of pulse coder I have (single-ended or differential encoder).  However, there were 20 plus wires!  I am hoping one of you guys could take a look at the pics I posted below and let me know what I am dealing with and how I should handle these various wires.  Thanks much!

Motor:  Fanuc Model 0 DC Brush motor
Encoder: 2500 Pulse Count
Excit. Perm. Magnet
RPM: 2000
Volts: 56V
Cont Amps at Stall: 12A
Torque at Stall: 2.7Nm

If you look inside the motor these are the only ones used.

A) A
B) B
C) +5V
D) A not
E) B not
F) Z
G) Z not
H) Shield?
J) +5V
K) +5V
L)
M)
N) 0V
P) 0V
R) Temp Sw.
S) Temp Sw.
T) 0V

Hi Darek,

Does Z = Index?

Also, how do the Temp switches work?  Do I use them as emergency stops if the motor gets too hot?

Thanks!

David

yes:

Z = Index, and your temp switchs are for over temp. Check your switch type, (n/c, or n/o), and you can wire them in your estop.

Hi David,

Can you tell me the status of your work, any good news? I want to do also a retrofit to my Mazak HMC, with fanuc 6BM control. It is exactly what you are doing, also with F/V converter. Can you give me pointers on what to buy and how to wire them?
I am following your treads with enthusiasm.

Thank You

George
