another newbie with a 4th axis
« on: June 23, 2014, 09:27:39 PM »
trying to get my deepgroove1 5C 4th axis set up correctly.

It has a 6:1 rotation.

How do I set up this up in motor tuning?  What is the math?  Done a search but end up more confused.

I can get it to rotate just not correctly.  If i type in G0 A360 it keeps going round.  LOL

Any help would be appreciated.

I will assume its a stepper thus  it will depend also on the microstepping your drive is set to.
For example if it is a 1.8 degree stepper motor (200 steps per motor rev) and the drive is set to 8 microsteps that will mean 1 rev of motor = 200 x 8 = 1600 steps.
Your gearing is 6:1 so 1600 x 6 = 9600 steps per rev of axis
1 rev of axis is 360 degrees so steps per unit (a degree) will be 9600/360 = 26.6666666667

Got it working.  Thanks.  I did end up finding a thread that made sense.  Using stepper motor with a gecko g540.

G540 are 10 micros steps so your step per degree should be 200 x 10 x 6 divided by 360 = 33.33333333
