MACH3 ROAD RUNNER ACTUAL SIZE
« on: May 16, 2013, 07:53:06 AM »
First and for most.
Thank you for lifting the ban.
An apology to who ever and what ever it was for the misunderstanding,
that caused the ban.
==============================
I just got my machine and Mach3 to finally work together.
After hours of motor tuning and homing limits etc.
I cut the road runner last night on plexiglass.
=======================================
I would like to know what is the actual size of the road runner,
inches or MM so I can get an idea of what is going on.
Can some one please tell me how you can see the outside dimensions
in the GCODE of the perimeter or size of this cut.
Thank you

Hi Ugotit33,

Pleased to hear you have now got your machine up and running.

The roadrunner .tap file is in inches.

Once any GCode file has been loaded if you go to the Toolpath window it will show the dimensional extents (X,Y,Z) of the file under ‘Program Limits’ (these dimensions relate to axis movements from the origin as defined in the CAD/CAM program which created the GCode).

Tweakie.
PEACE

Now that I have may machine to recognize Mach3.
Import the road runner gcode and watch it cut.
The next step I need help with.
========================================
Do you make a drawing in lets say Corel draw 9 or 12
or import a drawing into Corel?? or what program ?
Save it as a dxf ? then import it into Mach3 and
generate a GCODE there ?
Or do you have to take a drawing or make a drawing
save it in another format in Corel etc import it into lets say Vetric.
Vectorize it, save it as what then import or load into Corel agsin
Save it as a DFX IMPORT IT INTO mACH3 ETC generate a Gcode.
Please some one give me the simple Procedure.
Thank you

Corel is probably not the best package to use (I use Vectric VCarve Pro) but you have to start somewhere and if you have Corel already then use it.

If your Corel drawing is simple then by all means export it in .dxf format then use LazyCam (free with Mach3) to create the GCode then load the GCode file into Mach3.

If your Corel drawing is more complex then it is better to export it in .dxf format then load the .dxf into a CAD/CAM program (such as Vectric) to create the GCode then load the GCode into Mach3.

Obviously you may need to read the relevant manuals (LazyCam, Vectric, etc.) to understand the correct procedures for setting up the tool paths, depths, etc. but it is basically quite a simple process and I am sure you will master it in no time.

OK
I do have Vetric Vcarve so I will try that.
I tried Corel  not keen on that at all.
Is lazy cam imbedded in MACH3 as when you generate a code.
I see no mention of it in there ??
Thank you

LazyCam can be installed at the same time Mach3 is installed or it can be installed later as a 'stand alone' application. Check your Mach3 menu bar under 'File' to see if it is there. It is a very basic program and if you already have Vectric then I think it would be much better to use that.

Sorry for being ignorant but where do I get Lazy cam It is not in the  (file menu ) in Mach3 and I have never seen it.
I also thought Mach odes not support it anymore or have it ?
=============================
I took a jpg picture into Corel saved it as a dxf took it into Vcarve but no picture ??
Just a rectangular box with words where the file is located on my desktop.
===========================
So can a picture be taken into Corel or Corel can only generate lines to be used.
Guess I will try a simple line next.

I think you can take the image directly into Vectric and do what you want with it there.
Been a while since I toyed with their demo.

See pic, then scroll down for LCam.

OK
Gottcha on the LCAM
Guess I will learn Vetric and vcarve seems the way to go
Thank you on both.
Now to rack my brain
By the way great Avatar
