Mach3 Gecko 540 and a CNC with a mind of it's own
« on: March 13, 2013, 04:06:00 PM »
Hi everyone
I'm new to the world of CNC.   ???  I have purchased a new (English)  CNC that came with a Chinese board. Endless problems, I scrapped the board and purchased the GECKO 540. Installed fine, running MACH 3. Everything works except that as soon as I run a programme, the re-gen appears to work ok but upon starting the programme, the machine trundles off the the far right hand corner and wants to start machining from there, even overrunning the motors (they have no stops)....would like to set the home to zero but unable without switches ...any suggestions here, I would be grateful (not too tech though please!). I suspected that the axis's were going further than the measure....changed the setting via automatic..great..bang on. It was x 2 the actual, if that makes sense. I know enough to use Mach 3 as I have made several items from the old board but the running and accuracy was all to pot....Very strange...loaded the "Roadrunner" today and that seem to machine ok although I do not know what size should be!!! as machined this before adjusting. Any suggestions would be really appreciated before I'm sent to "Shady Pines"

I'm using Vectric Pro 6.5 software for designs etc.

Hey Hallettoil, if you do not have the home switches enabled (which they shouldnt be since you dont have any) when you the refrence all button the green leds around the axis dro zero buttons will light up and set your machine coord. to 0 at that point.  You will want to be sure your axis are going in the right direction and that they are moveing the proper amounts.  These links will help you with that.
