CNC Router / Machine Center Retrofit
« on: May 23, 2006, 09:10:40 AM »
As far as CNC routering is concerned, I am now at the point where I know enough to irritate the experts and impress the totally ignorant - please keep this in mind when answering my query.

Seeing Mach 3 perform on a single spindle router left me quite impressed and I would like to attempt a retrofit on one of my existing routers.

The machine I would like to retrofit is an IMA Bima 1000 machine center with the following auxilliaries

- Router
- Saw
- Rotating horizontal borers ( 1 head with 4 spindles)
- Vertical drill bank with 24 spindles

Currently the machine is fitted with a NUM controller and Indramat drives

I would like to know the following:

- Can Mach 3 handle such a machine?
- Is there anybody out there that has done such a conversion?
- Can I keep the drives and motors?
- Is it worth doing the retrofit?
- Where do I start?

Thanking you in advance

I know this was posted along time ago, but how did you get on. I have a similar machine and would like to try to do the same. Look forward to any advice anyone may have.
