How to set table size and limit home switches
« on: November 05, 2012, 03:56:27 PM »
I have 4 limit/home switches set to pin 11  active low ,wired normally closed in series for x++, x--,y++,y--. Will use Z zero at top of maximum travel on z axis. My table is roughly 48" wide x 76" long.I want to set my tabel size in machine coordinates and reference x & y axis.
I think I'll be needing a step by step guide as to how to set this up.Tried to reference all home but Mach3 is not backing away from the limithome switch when it triggers it open.
Thanks in advance
Andy

I think iF you use NC you shouldl be using active HIGH.

Just a thought, (;-) TP

My swithces are working good at these settings.
referencing  x and y axis the gantry goes slowly to the switch , triggers it then backs off just enough so it closes again.
I dont have a switch for the Z axis.
Where do I set my table size and soft limits?

Config menu then Homing and limits. Set Xand Y min to 0 and X and Y max to the travel you have.
You dont have a Z home so unless you jog to fully up before you press Ref All then you dont need to set up the Z. However it would be a good idea to do so. If you do then set Z Max as 0 and Z Min as your Z travel but a negative value.

Thanks .What I did was Jog X axis in ++ direction until it was hair off the++ limit switch  and set that travel as table max. Did same for Y axis.
I have probe setup to pin#12 in normally open circuit with alligator clip to endmill and a 0.02 thick plate for zeroing. It is working as I see the green light come on when the endmill touches the plate. I add the 0.02 to the DRO reading in machine coordinates to get Z Zero for the top of the material.
Is there a more efficient way to do this Zeroing tool to top of material along with zeroing X & Y axis to the material? Same like referencing the Axis to home switches with plate instead?
Looking for step by step.
Good News is machine does exactly what I tell it do.
Bad news is the machine does exactly what I tell it to do.
Maybe find solution for material surface zeroing in another post.
Thanks

Install tool of your choice in spindle, record diameter first.
Touch the tool to the side of your work in X, hit "zero" X.
"                                                        " Y hit "zero" Y
"                                                        " Z hit'zero" Z
Lift the Z clear of the work. Hit go to zero.
In MDI type X (1/2 diameter of tool), Y (1/2 diameter of tool) "enter"
Machine will now move tool to the new 0,0,0,
"Zero the X and Y. (Z is already correct) The theoretical tool center is now over the corner of your work.

OK.But where do I put the 0.02 offset of the thicjness of the zeroing  plate?

IIRC on the "offsets" page but you would have to go back to that page each time a touch off was required. You could just do a touch off and enter the thickness of your touch plate in the dro, press enter.
