SANDY - ONE WITH AN ATTITUDE
« on: October 30, 2012, 09:10:44 PM »
Sandy visited Delaware and went on her way to say hello to other states. Hopefully we not see the likes of her again.
She really showed an attitude not becoming of the typical stormy personality.
I must admit that local to my place we were very lucky and only lost power for 10 hours.
A lot of folks elsewhere were not so lucky though.
Hopefully your experience was only a matter of inconvenience also.

Russ,
About 70 miles to some of the beaches  but rather close to the Delaware River. Fortunately never had any flooding problems in our neighborhood.
Yet just 1/2 mile away, in a lower lying neighborhood, they are under 5' of water.
Most of the heavy rain was about 20 miles south of us. We got  5 to 7" of rain.

We did "ok" here and made out fairly decent as we didn't even lose power this time around. Last year in September we went for almost a week without power and I'll never go through that again.

I will say this about Sandy, in all my 15 years living on Long Island, and the rest, living here in Pa, I have never heard or felt winds like that in my life.

I was truly concerned at times through that storm, that is no lie.

That's good to hear guys !

Boy, the devastation along the NJ coast is heartbreaking !
We got a mix of snow and some rain, not too bad. 2' of snow just west of us ... wet and heavy, the worst kind.
Was on the gen. for about 3 hrs., then aok. We got lucky as the storm in the summer already tore everything up and there was not many trees left to fall down on the lines.
I feel for the folks up there along the coast. I have customers there and have not heard from them yet.

A friend of mine survived a level 5 tornado in Oklahoma last year.  He made it to his shelter 10 seconds before it hit.  They never found most of his house, his truck was found 1/4 mile away.  Well, he moved to New Jersey in October of last year to get away from the weather.  I was finally able to get in touch with him yesterday.  His power has been out for 5 days.  When I asked him how bad it was he said after the 225 mph winds of the tornado, Sandy's 70 to 90 mph winds were a light breeze.  I think I will stick to the earthquakes in California.
