AB drive question for HOOD
« on: October 10, 2012, 05:55:33 PM »
HIYA Hood, Question on the ab drives . I see you can enable the following mode(step/Dir) via software UltraMaster. Do you also have to use an input programmed to active that function.

Still waiting on a few parts for the Line drivers to get here. Radio shack had everything but the $1.00 chips(;-)

Have you tried the ttl method of SD that they show but do not recommend?

Getting close, (;-) TP

Not really sure what you are meaning regards the input but if you mean an extra input to keep it on step/dir mode then no. Just set that in the software as your control method and connect the step/dir signals to the appropriate pins and you are done. You can have a secondary mode which you can switch to via an input but its unlikely you would be wanting that if its simply an axis you are driving.

Single ended is not recommended, I havet tried it but I know quite a few that have and had issues and they all went away when they used the line driver.

By the way I did get the drive and motor commutated.  A friend offered to scope them after I figured out my scope was dead on one channel.

I would NEVER have gotten it otherwise AS the spec sheet for the motor had one phase of the encoders color coded BACKWARDS.

Thought it had to be something like that as the commutation in the pdf should have worked no problem.

One last question on the line driver do you supply the 5vdc from the pc side, driver side or independant source ?

I supply it from the BOB or controller so if you have isolation on the BOB you would need its power from it, if you dont then you would use the PC or BOB, whichever is easiest. You could use an external supply but you would have to tie in the OV of that supply to the OV of your BOB or PC.
