I just got a tele guitar body drawing in ".dwg"     It will not open in CamBam. Is dwg not for CamBam?

DWG is for autocad  what you are looking for is DXF. Anyone with Acad can convert it to DXF for you.

Cool Thanks! I am loving this stuff I have been researching for days straight! lol I am going to get this! Its all very simply complicated. Got another question. If I bought a CAD program I could convert stuff like this myself right? Also if I draw something in CAD can I use it on mach 3 of does it have to go through a CAM software first to creat toolpaths and all that? if so for starting out. I was thinking turboCAD cause its only $99 and then what CAM for around the same? I just want something to get me up and running without having to spend an arm! I just want something that would work, something I can draw up and cut it out. Mainly wood for now.

I just noticed you said specifically "AutoCAD"  is it strictly Autocad that uses this type and can convert or will any CAD work?

SOme will some won't. IF you are looking for a free acad clone program try the free version of progecad. It can read native DWG and ouput in DXF

You draw in CAD then convert to Gcode in CAM

Try Draftsight, it's free and should be able to save that as a .dxf.

Also, you can try A9 Converter, which is free, and can convert .dwg files to .dxf files. www.A9tech.com

Edit:
There sight seems to be down, but you can get it here.
