mach conversion to a cincinnati sabre 750
« on: March 20, 2012, 04:15:31 PM »
i just got a sabre 750 and are planning on going the mach route on it. it came with the acramatic 850sx controller but i am selling it all off to pay for the iron.
1 are the brushless (i assume ac) motors on the mill now going to be costly to make step/direction run?
specs are z axis

and i assume both x and y are

this came with some bds4's that i think are the drives?

if i cant use the motors i will just sell them off too.
i was thinking maybe the biggest keling servos would be enough. not looking for speed on this mill, just rigid, accurate and toolchanger.
it has no spindle motor and i think i might be about to get a 5-10hp on there later.

Personally I would try my hardest to keep the AC servos rather than go with hobby grade drives/motors.  You have a few options if the drives are analogue input and are ok
Galil, DSPMC, KFlop/Kanalog or CSMIO/IP-A are 4 types of controllers that work with Mach and output analogue signals.

Seems they require a 250 to 360vdc suply so your 220v should be fine once transfomed and rectified. Is there a power supply in it already?

Were the drives the ones that were matched to the motors?

ah ok I see that is what you are selling.
If there is no big power supply then you would need to make one as it seems the drives are DC input. As you do not need to step the voltage down you could just rectify and smooth I suppose so no transformer needed.
