Motors are not jogging
« on: February 07, 2012, 04:12:11 PM »
Hi all,

I have a problem with jogging the motors in Mach 3. At this point the DRO moves and the config has been completed as per the Mach 3 tutorial.
The motors hold when powered from the Gecko 203V. i was on the phone with the BOB and we ran some checks and moved some jumpers etc to verify the BOB is working. He's confident that it's serviceable. He was of the opinion that Mach 3 might not be set up correctly.

At this time when measured at the BOB I have 4.8V between 2/com and 3/com. This doesn't move to zero when being jogged in Mach 3.
I removed the parallel cable from the PC and measured the voltages at the port. Between 2/25 up to 15/25 there is 5.0V present at all times.

Does anyone have any ideas about where to look?

Thanks

Ramon

Do you have the correct port address set up?
If you attach your xml I will have a look and see if I can find a config issue.

Hi Hood,

I'm pretty sure the port address is correct.

XML attached.

Ok you have the standard port set up so if its an onboard parallel port it should be ok but you can check in device manager to be sure.
You should definitely see the voltage change on pin 3 as you change jog direction, just double check you are connecting your meter to the correct pins on the port as its easy to get it back to front.
Also check on the Diagnostics page and see if you have a pulse frequency showing and also a time in Int.

Just checked the port setting. LPT1 is set to 0378.

Diagnostic page show Time in Int fluctuating around the +7.0 mark.

Whe running the Mach 3 Roadrunner.tap the DRO works etc.
Pulse frequency is static at 25002.
I've attached screenshot.

You only had the X axis enabled in the xml you sent but that is on pins 2 and 3 so you should definitely see a voltage change on pin 3 when jogging back and forth, if you are not and you are certain that you are checking the correct pins then it would seem your port is not working.
When you say LPT is set to 0378 is that in device manager that you checked?

Hi Hood,

I'm sure I'm measuring the correct pins for voltage.

You're correct. I only have the x motor connected.

I checked device manager to obtain the port settings.

What's the best way to check the ports operability?

Checking with a voltmeter on the Dir pin is the easiest way, maybe set up a different pin in Mach and check that to see.
With you getting a time in Int and the frequency showing it means the Mach driver is working so there should not be a problem unless the port itself is damaged.
