can't get set-up completed
« on: January 17, 2012, 01:15:42 PM »
Help! I can't get Mach 3 to communicate with the breakout board. I think it is a port problem. I have run the driver test and it reports back complete control and an excellent rating. I can not get any response to the steppers at all and the diagnostic screen doesn't show any green lights on the port pins. I tried uninstalling the port driver and reinstalling Mach 3 but still the same thing.

Do you have the correct address in for the port?
Have you checked at the port with a voltmeter to see if for example the Dir pin of an axis changes from 5v to 0v when you jog that axis back and forth?

I get no voltage or voltage change on the pins when sending a direction signal. Now what?

have you got the correct port address in Mach?
Do the DROs for the axis move in Mach when you jog?
Were you measuring the pins on the computer and had the meter leads between a step pin and a gnd pin?
Is your parallel port on the motherboard or is it a PCI card?

If you attach your xml I will have a look at your config.

OK, I re-tested the pins and think I didn't have a good ground the first time. Now all looks good. I have voltage change on all direction pins. It appears that all is good right up to the control board. I ran their own test software for the board and it failed also. I am now working with the manufacturer tech guy. I think I am in for a new board. Thanks for you help!
