Windows & and smooth stepper missing steps
« on: September 14, 2011, 09:02:27 AM »
Having problems with missed steps??
I ran 3D file and it got half way thru the parallel finishing cut, when it decided to cut 8mm above the surface in mid air!
worked fine until then.
It is a new computer with Windows 7 installed running thru a Smooth Stepper from Mach3. I have know idea what is causing this problem.
Buffer overrun in smooth stepper? windows 7 running something in the background? I just dont know.
Im very frustrated as having spent days trying to fix this.
Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Did the toolpath show the tool to be on position with the code or did it show it higher?
Is it possible the code was telling the cutter to go there?
Could your cutter have been pushed into the collet?
Could your axis have stalled as it was plunging into the material?

Thanks Hood,
No every thing is as it should be, just offset itself.
It seem a few people have been having problems with W7. Tere must be a problem with W7 doing something in the background.

I can't afford to have anymore problems - I will go back to XP and see if that works.

Never really kept up with Vista and W7 issues so although I have never heard of probs it could well be.
