tooling (please move if needed)

Being new to all this I was wondering if anyone knew of a guide to tooling on lathes and milling machines etc ? a sort of what is used for what if you get my meanings.

Any pdf etc for me to sit and read would be great

Best bet is look at the tooling manufacturers sites and download some catalogues. Sandvik, Kenametal, Iscar, Sumitomo, Seco and Mitsubishi are a few. Most of the catalogues have lots of good info on cutting feeds and speeds amongst other things.

machinery's handbook, get it from your local libray or get an older version from eBay....
