Gerber DCS 2500 Cutter
« on: January 10, 2008, 04:20:02 PM »
Hello All,

I need some info about this cutter. The company I work for backed a company financially and the business failed so we purchased the rest of the buisnes that has one of these cutters and the software to run it. The machine is running and works great! The problem is that Gerber wants to charge us $9000.00 (yes, not a typo) because of the software that is non transferable. We stated that we gave the money to the company to purchase the cutter but it was registered in the other business name, yada, yada, yada!

Link To Cutter http://www.gerbertechnology.com/downloads/pdf/html/1view/index.asp?name=DCS2500_E

Any how all I would like to know, can I run this cutter on different software like Mach 3 or something else? Does it have to be Gerber software?

I would love to just tell Gerber to go pound sand!

Thanks

Bill

If the control puts out step and direction signals to the drives then it should be an easy conversion to Mach. Would need to look deeper to say for sure.

well first thing is to see how the PC connects to the control, if there is a PCI card then thats not so good, would be a lot more work and probably hardware needed.

OK well it looks like it's going to be the side of a lot more work. :(

I have added a few pictures of the controller. There is a card in the PCI slot and the wide connector is connected to the computer and the control box. I have added a picture of the box, cord, and the back of the box. These were taken with my cell, but I can take as many and of what you would like to see with a REAL camera.

Hunt ... What do you think?

From the looks of the 100 pin connector, there must be a Galil controller in the computer. You should open the computer case and check the markings of the board connected to the other end of that connecting cable. Please look for markings on the board such as Galil and 17?? or 18?? etc. Please get back to us with that information, or take the board out and place it on a copy machine and send the images from both sides of the board. Then maybe we can help.

Having way too much fun! Something must surely be wrong.
