encoders practical uses with steppers?
« on: September 28, 2006, 07:59:57 AM »
Hi what are the practical puroses for using  encoders with steppers in Mach ? I realize the servos need encoders for feed back, but could you use them with steppers to eliminate position error and or lost steps?
Thanks  Bob

I believe Art said in another thread that they will not control the motor.
They would just act as a DRO in Mach

Thats what I thought.  so if the dro's don't match up then you'd know that  you had slippage or lost steps
