mach 3 problems
« on: March 01, 2010, 10:43:11 AM »
Hi.
I have converted a proxxon mf70 to a simple 3-axis machine. At first i tried to use mach 3, but my steppers just sounded awfull... I then tried kcam, and found that whit the same settings as i applied in mach 3 it runs really nice. I am running win xp, 200steps/mm at a rate of 100mm/min. My driverboard is from cncgeeker . com. I just can't figure out why the heck mach3 can't run my steppers...
Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!  ;)

Did you configure MACH and also set/check the steps per unit, velcocity, and accel, an us in motor tuning?

Yes... i have set mach up just like kcam, and also set the motor tuning to exactly the same as in kcam.. But it just doesnt work.. and they are borh set to mm's not inches.. so that shouldn't be the problem..

Quick look at kcam says that the drivers get their signals via the serial port.
Mach output is via the Parallel Port.

No.. I use the same port in both programs, parallel port.. The motors does turn in mach3, it just doesn't sound good, and they don't run smooth...

Suggest you try changing the step and pulse time to a value like 5 or even try using the Sherline 1/2 pulse mode as that gives  max pulse
of time 40us. I didn't see anything specific in the manual reagarding this, but, i only glanced through it.

Does your computer have on board graphics?

Sherline ½ pulse did the trick! Thank you :) By the way.. How do i get mach3 to disable my stepper motors when they are not running? They get quite hot if when it keeps them enabled all the time..

Have a look at your drive documentation and see if there is a jumper for auto current reduction.
