I'm going to do a last test with the pc - I found on the forum that disabling ACPI might help, so I did that, testing tomorrow.

Done and Failed: the pc is now significantly slower and the parallel port works even worse, now the direction control is gone.
I decided to find some extra space for the desktop to make it a permanent fixture and forget about the atom.
