These things happen, I spent about 4 weeks trying to find an issue with my lathe, the Z axis would trip out on a rapid move and it seemed to get worse in the cold mornings and as the day got warmer it was better. I was convinced it was the heavy oil in the ballscrew bearings just tipping it over the edge and making it fault with a following error. Changed to lighter oil and still had the problems, then suspected that the bearing itself was going bad and it was when I took the motor off so I could dismantle it I found the problem, the pulley was rubbing on the motors mount plate. The reason it got better when warm I am unsure as I would have thought it would get worse due to the pulley expanding with the frinction heat but have never had the problem again since I moved the pulley 2mm clear.
