I have one of the 80mm dia ones from Peter, not actually used it yet on a machine but the feel and quality are nice :)
I have used it whilst messing with the AC servo drives and motors here in the house and it works well.

Hood,
I would like to use a rotary axis switch like you did, looking at maplins they do a 3 pole 4 way: part number FF75S.
would this do it?
I am going to use a seperate pci PP for all of the MPG connections, any chance on a heads up on wiring?
I noticed you have other buttons are these worth while and are the buttons make to break or momentry?
  Cheers

I used  79-0200 from Rapid
http://www.rapidonline.com/Electronic-Components/Switches/Rotary-Switches/PCB-Mounting-rotary-switches/30305/kw/rotary+switch.

What you needing info on regards wiring? is it the MPG or Buttons?

The buttons are momentary and I use them all the time even though I have touch screens on all machines.

Velocity is where the Axis moves in relation to the speed you rotate the MPG. Step is actually MultiStep where each click of the MPG will move the amount you have set for the Step value, mine is permanently set to 0.01mm.

Wiring is easy, all you do is put the common terminal of the rotary switch to Gnd and then each position to an Input, same for momentary switches, one side to Gnd other to the Input.
Are you going to be using a PoKeys for the buttons/switch or just the Parallel Port?

How do you associate the inputs to the axis?
Not sure what pokeys are?
