A Axis Setup as Degrees
« on: June 16, 2009, 09:57:36 PM »
Could any one provide details as to how to set the A Axis to read or relate to degrees. I am setting it up to an indexing head and the reading is in MM's and I would like to set it up to Degrees. I haven't set the drive config up yet as I am unsure of how to do it. I have been through all the documentation I can find and am a little bamboozled. ???

On the General Config page, second item down on the left hand side.

Check  "A axis is angular"

Yes I have done this in a test, however this does not change anything in terms of readout or doing the motor set-up. All the readings and terms still relate to distance as opposed to Degree's

How do you mean that it still relates to distance rather than degrees?

Do you have the steps per unit set correctly.

Needs to be set so that you have 360 degrees or units per revolution of the axis.

I have the same problem. When you figure it out could you let me know what you did to solve the issue?
Thanks.

When you have checked "A-axis as angular" and configured your steps per unit to achieve 360 units = one complete rotation you may choose a couple other options. Namely the "Rot 360 rollover" and the "Ang Short Rot on G0".  Play with these options and put G0 and G1 moves in the mdi line to see what happens.

As Greg asks, how do you see Mach threats the A-axis in mm and not in degrees?

Thank you for the help, at this time I believe that I have done all the above. I will check this on the weekend, as If I have then there may be a problem with my step controller or calculations.
