Probe and A axis problem in Mach3
« on: January 01, 2006, 03:32:57 AM »
I am using the digitizing wizard in Mach3 with the TP100 probe. My machine has the A axis as a slave to the X axis (two motors on x gantry). When I run the digitizing routine my X and A motors do not work. If I go and turn off the slave axis (A), then everything seems to work OK but only one of the motors on my gantry works (axis A). How do I use the probe with a double motor  X movement (motor X and A). Hope the makes sense.

That one looks like an Art question... I am sending it to him now.

Thank you

Hi Ray:

I just ried that here and it worked fine? If you type a G31X10 does the X move as well as they A? or does it fail in MDI as well?

I will check and get back to you tomorrow on that.

Let me explain a little better.

I have a 3 axis machine that is X, Y and Z with A being a slave to X. (2 motors move the X which is my gantry) I am not trying to use A as a 4th axis.

I turn on machine and home everyone.
Z homes, Y homes, X and A homes together.

Then I go to Wizards/PickWizards/DigitizeWizard
It takes me to "4th Axis Digitizing Wizard" (I selected the non 4th axis one in wizard list so why the 4th axis title?)

I am trying to digitize a flat 3 x 3 x .75 inch area. (no 4th axis)
Here are my settings:

Length of digitizing area 3.0000
Z axis travel height 0.7500
Z axis probe depth 0.0000
Length Stepover 0.0100

A axis Start 0.0000
A axis End 3.0000
A axis Step 0.0100

Feed rate 60.00

(Method 1)When I select Rotational Axis Parallel to Axis (X is selected)
This method when the code is used makes the machine move the Y and Z axis (but not the X nor slave A).
(Method 2) When I select Rotational Axis Parallel to Axis (Y is selected instead)
This method when the code is used makes the machine move the A and Z axis (but not the Y and not the slaves master X)

Now if I go and change my machines setup by telling it there is no Slave A to X connection. Then using either (Method 1 or 2) everything moves but the X motor, (A, Y and Z move but not X)

Let me know if that sparks any ideas or questions.

We found the problem was the wrong program (4th axis digitize) was showing up when we selected Digitize Wizard. So an upgrade did the trick.
Thanks again
