Linear scale
« on: July 25, 2006, 02:35:05 AM »
Can anybody tell me das Mach3 support control thru linear scale? Maybe I did not post right question .I am interested to put linear scale to my machine (DYNA 2400) step system and I want to have control established thru feedback from scale not from counting the steps of my motor.

Mach can read up to 3 encoder (either linear or rotary) and display the results in DROs.
It cannot, however, close the control loop to make any position corrections if your stepper misses steps.

There is talk of making this happen with the G100 (Grex) unit from GeckoDrives tho. Mach would still not "close the loop"-- the G100 would, and Mach would be controlling the G100.

Hope this answers your question??

Thanks for your answer. Yes, this is what I wonted to know, so I need Grex G100 control unit, but that opens new questions. If MACH3 can read 3 linear or rotary encoder and I need to read 5, do you know can MACH4 read 5 (3 linear and 2 rotary)?

The G100 unit can handle up to 6 axis, so you should be fine there. The encoders will not tie back into Mach, but to the G100.

However, please note that the G100 is hardware that is able to do this, but the software/firmware is not yet written to support it.
So, you are not able to do this yet, but should in the coming months (year?)
