SS: Motors won't turn yet
« on: January 02, 2009, 11:12:09 AM »
Hi everyone. I just connected my SS and tried to make first trials with motors. BUT I can't get motors run. I have done everything by following the instructions of manual. Where to start troubleshooting? The setup is new but I double checked the motor wires etc. everything is fine. Only thing what I noticed was that when I try to turn motor by hand, there is normal holding torque. But when I command mach to turn motor, holding torque decreases (normal?).
Plugins and SS are installed.

When Mach3 is running and SS powered up, blue and green LED's are lit and red is blinking, does this mean that there is error with configuration?

Check in the SS diagnostics and see if anything is being flagged there. Make sure you have the correct port asigned for not only the Step but also the Dir.

Thanks for replying so quickly! System is now working, I started to look closer enable pins and found out that each axis had wrong enable pin number  ::)
Motor runs now great! I had also oppoturnity to test my new microstepping stepmotor drives.

Thanks!

G201 dont have enable pins as far as I remember.
The SS Diagnostics page is in the Plugin Control menu.

Brain,
Make sure you have the ESTOP configured in ports & pins, check emulated in ports and pins.
Also , make check that the port for the pinouts are correct.

Under input, ESTOP is ticked off, port is 0 and pin10?? ( what is this)
Emulated? doesnt register.
I do get " ESTOP is not assigned to a smoothstepper input"
but I dont know how to do this.
Brian.

Do you have an estop on your machine?
You should really have one no matter how small it is but some people choose not to have one, why I dont know, maybe it is to  save a few $.
Anyway if you dont have one then you will have to pretend that you do and set the estop in ports and pins to an unused port and pin then change the active state so that Mach thinks the estop is there and set properly.

I get a message ESTOP is not assigned to a smartstepper input
Under output signals
ESTOP is ticked,  port 0, pin10 ,port 1 ( the one I'm using will not stick)
and where or what is pin 10 connected too.
Thanks
Brian.
