Communication With Modbus Multiturn Absolute Encoders

Hi, just wondering if anyone has tried using the modbus interface to communicate with modbus based absolute encoders? Just added a fourth axis to my Bridgeport and it would be nice to use an absolute encoder on it.
Thanks

Hi,
why?
Modbus communicates master to slave, so you would require a Modbus slave, either a PLC or Arduino or similar at the encoder for the PC Modbus master
to interrogate. Why not just hook the encoder to an MPG input on your BoB/controller?
