when changing direction of any axis one step is continiu to go the same directio

Hi  ,I.m new to cnc world. I found out that my machine(home made) continue to go one step  forward  when i have pushed already  rewers direction... What can be wrong in my setup, settings.. I'm using MACH 3 .
