Spindle as OB Motor Stops Randomly
« on: November 12, 2024, 04:03:07 PM »
We have a spindle set up to run as step and direction that randomly stops spinning.
It has a spindle speed and a direction commanded, but it just stops spinning or won't stop spinning.
Using the HiCON with the latest plugin and firmware and V. 5036 of M4.  As of 11-1-24.
Anyone else have this problem before?  We have this set up the same way on another machine and it seems to be running just fine.

On a side note; just for testing purposes and trying to recreate the problem at will... I noticed that I can command the Spindle CW (or CCW) with no RPM and then run an S command in MDI and it will not start spinning.  I have to turn the spindle off and back on again, it won't just start spinning.  I have no idea how the motion planner handles spindle commands, but I would assume that when It gets a spindle speed it would react to that and start spinning.  But, like I said, I don't know how the motion controller handles this.

I plan on setting it up with 0-10V and running it to see if we have the same issue, but I need to run a cable with additional wires to the Servo Drive to do that first.
Just curious to see if anyone else has had this problem.

I have an ESS and Mach4 hobby... My spindle is a Servo with a 0-10v signal for speed. I've noticed that sometimes the spindle doesn't start.. If I stop it and restart the spindle it works fine. I haven't been able to determine under what circumstances this occurs. As a fix, I'm simply bringing a running (above some minimum speed) signal from the servo to Mach4 and checking for the signal before the Gcode continues. I've also had some issues with the relay board extension off the ESS with outputs being turned on, but the relay not activated. And I haven't determined if its the ESS, the relay board, or something else.  :o
any semblance of information posted to anything remotely  close to accuracy is merely coincidence. Use at you own discretion.. or play the lottery.. same odds

I use the HiCON and have had this issue only on one machine with 0-10v and it is so sparatic that we just deal with it.
We have another machine running the step and direction spindle with no issue.
I have the zero speed signal from the servo drive and I have a plc script that e stops the machine if it is supposed to be spinning over 15 rpm and it isn’t.
