It could for applications such as artcam.

I took my tablet PC and drew a few things on the tablet.  Then imported the images into artcam  and created releifes from them.

There's a plugin that exports .stl files. There was a link to it at CNC Zone, but I don't know where off hand. I tried it, and it did work OK exporting from Sketchup to MeshCAM.
