General Mach Discussion / Re: A axis setup problems
« on: May 05, 2013, 11:34:22 AM »
Excellent thank-you for the help.

Does anyone have any ideas about my first question about the motors?

I read on the forum that motor noise can often be mechanical but I know if I switch profiles and turn off the A axis no noise so I know its not mechanical but it could be electrical?

I used slightly different gauge wire then what was originally used on the rest of the machine wiring could that be it or a bad soldering job?

Just wondering it could be something very simple.

Also I'm stumped on how to make the A axis display in degrees, I need to figure out how to make one revolution = 360 deg.

If anyone could help me in this area it would be greatly appreciated.

General Mach Discussion / A axis setup problems

Hello everyone,

I have a K2CNC system and I recently added a 4th axis on my own.

I added a G201 Stepper Drive from Gecko drive and a SureStep stepper motor, single shaft, 276 oz-in holding torque, 2.8 amps/phase, 1.8 degrees / full step (200 steps/revolution), NEMA size 23, bipolar

I just setup my 4th axis and it works but now I get noise on my other 3 motors when they move it's almost a grinding noise.

I changed my Step Pulse to 5 from 0 and it got much better but still makes noise.

I created a new profile in Mach 3 for the rotary axis and if I use my old 3 axis profile the motors run quietly.

Any help would be appreciated.

Btw, it's a stepper motor.

My Y axis was the one that gave me the most trouble, so first of all I swapped the Z and Y switches and tested to see if it was a faulty switch. It gave me the same issue.

Then I unplugged the power to my work light and router to see if it was a issue with shielding and that made no difference either.

Then I did what you recommend and set the debounce value to 2000 and it worked, it was able to home properly.  I brought the value down to 100 and it still homed correctly but..... I the motor made a moaning noise when it moved in the opposite direction after the switch was triggered. I took off the motor to see if the axis was under load and it moved very easily with two fingers.

Any ideas about the motor? I was thinking of switching the Z and y axis motors to see it it still happens.

What does the debounce 2000 value pertain to? Will it affect the programs I run?

I have more questions but I'll wait till I hear your reply.

Thanks for the help!:-)

Thank for the help, I'll post my results later.

Hey guys,
When I reference my machine it no longer travels to the limit switches.  It moves a undetermined amount, no consistent amount and on all x, y and z axis. This doesn't happen all the time but mostly on my y axis. When it homes correctly it trips the switch then backs off the switch, when it does it incorrectly it does not back off it just calls that position 0.

Any help is appreciated.

Method.

General Mach Discussion / Re: motors stalling and or missing steps

One thing that caused that to happen to me was that I had my toolpath tolerance set too tight, that is if your using a software to make your programs. I had my tolerance set to .0002 and it was missing steps I changed it to .002 and I had no problems.

Is this is?  Everything I learned about setting up a 4th axis, problem solved, ** final cut

I will have to read it later time to enjoy the long weekend with the kiddies, it's time for a campfire.
Thanks for the reply hood!!!

General Mach Discussion / 4th Axis add on/build
« on: August 02, 2008, 02:26:17 PM »
Hey,
I have a K2 cnc router, and I would like to add a 4th axis, a full forth axis not a indexing 4th. I want the challenge of making it my self but I need your help. Any ideas where to start? I am running Mach3 with no problems. My wish list would be to have it spin like a lathe spindle and also to be able to run it slow like a mills 4th axis.

Thanks in advance, and it's good to be back!

Greg
