Newfangled Solutions Mach3 Wizards / Re: V2.81

Hi Ron:

Seems this has gone un-corrected.
In the interest of making everything correct could you change the descriptions of CCW and CW in the circular pocket wizard. A CCW path is climb milling and CW is conventional milling while inside a pocket.
The code does go CW when you select it. It's just the descriptions that need to be corrected.

(or maybe I got confused)

General Mach Discussion / Error in pocket wizard
« on: December 18, 2010, 10:09:59 AM »
In the standard built in Mach wizards (called "conversational on my screen set") the circular pocket wizard has the milling directions mis-labeled.

If you select CW the direction of travel of the tool is actually counter-clockwise.

Bottom line:
The top selection is CW (climb)
The bottom selection is CCW (conventional)

Only the CW and CCW descriptors need to be swapped.

The climb and conventional descriptions are actually incorrect as well for an internal pocket i.e counter-clockwise is climb milling, but changing the CW and CCW names only will take care it.

Confusing.

If you're looking for artwork in dxf and g-code format you can try the "share your g-code" topic on this board.
http://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php/board,61.0.html

Not sure how to make that a link. Guess you can cut and paste it or just go back to the main board menu and look for it.

Someone there also has a link to a website with hundreds of free dxf files of logos and simple artwork objects.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Cutter Compensation
« on: November 30, 2010, 02:47:22 PM »
Thanks for finding the link to the discussion on the fix. So it does appear that it is fixed if you use the development version 3.043
Since this has been out for a couple of years now, I assume it hasn't had any other show stopping problems  ;)
It's probably the best we're going to see for now until the re-write becomes gospel.

Maybe I'll give it a try.

Thanks guys

Sorry to post on such an old topic but I'm wondering if this cutter compensation issue ever got fixed (in a lock down verison).
I seem to remember some posts saying icutter compensation was close to being fixed or was fixed. It sure would be nice to use it to make small changes for worn or undersized cutters.

Does anyone remember if cutter compensation got fixed (and released).

Mach4 ??(four) loader.
You threw me on that.
In any case I went back and looked at what I had already done (described previously) and I now see that the create new profile dialogue (as you mentioned) does allow you to highlight an existing profile from the list labeled "clone from". I hadn't noticed that title on the list. Works fine.
Thanks Hood.

>>>had Mach3 move the machine .25, but the dial indicated that it only moved .02318

I think you still have a decimal point problem in your response. Do you mean you issued a move for .25 and it actually only moved .2318 (an error of 18 thou)?

Regardless, there is not much point in moving any more than a you are. Once the backlash is taken up, the rest of the move is assumed to be accurate. The backlash is only the error present when changing directions i.e steps that are issued but do nothing to actually advance the axis.

Oh, BTW be sure the dial indicator is EXACTLY parallel to the direction of movement. If it isn't then it will not indicate the correct measurement.

I'm confused on your readings. If you had Mach move 0.25" and your readings are only (roughly) 0.02 then you have more than a backlash problem. Or are you meaning that the error was roughly 0.02"
If so those, are pretty high backlash figures and I'd be looking for problems. It's unlikely you will get satisfactory operation with that much backlash even with the compensation. A few thou would be a more reasonable correctable figure (IMHO anyway)
Basically you have the process correct but you could / should probably measure the backlash in both directions.
i.e.

Move in one direction.
Zero the indicator
Move in the other direction a known commanded amount and measure the actual movement error.
Zero the indicator
Move back in the other direction a known commanded amount and measure the actual movement error.
Enter the average error into the backlash settings.
Repeat the test to see if it got any better and adjust the settings to eliminate all error.

General Mach Discussion / Profile creation
« on: August 30, 2010, 07:53:34 PM »
When I start Mach I get the profile selection box and in there is an option to create a new profile.
If I select "create profile" and give it a name and do not check the "use defaults" box, nothing seems to happen, by that I mean if I go ino the Mach directory there are no files by the name I designated and the new profile does not show up in the selection box.
If I check the "use defaults" box a few files and a whole directory get created and the selection is available but the new profile has default settings. I'd rather not go in and adjust everyting all over again. I assume having all these files and direcories is what is required to properly define a profile.
So the question is, how do I create a new profile only slightly different than an already existing one.
