Galil / Re: Plugin locking up Mach
« on: February 28, 2012, 03:10:09 PM »
Just checked again and it is there already. Some caveats apply though. First, you must use a 32 bit operating system so 64 bit anything is out. Second, You need SmartTerm and not Tools although both can be loaded on the machine. Third, You need version 4.4 of the plugin and not the newer version 4.5 which won't work at all with these older controllers.
I have used 17X0 controllers quite successfully with these settings.

Not sure which version of the plugin you are using, but you need SmartTerm and not Galil Tools for most of the earlier versions of the plugin. I would recommend using the earlier version for both the 2030 and 1740 controllers as there are problems with the very latest version and those controllers.
I'll get Brian to post the earlier version for those wanting to use those earlier controllers.

Galil / Re: How to ramp (spindle) in galil open loop control

The plugin uses the Galil OF command to control spindle speed. Even with an encoder, the spindle speed still uses the OF command. There is no accel or decel with the OF command, so I think that you will still need to use an RC circuit to get the type of control that you are looking for.

Try placing these files in your Macros direntory. They work for me.

I think that you are better off implementing an RC circuit between the Galil and your motor drive. You could even use a potentiometer to vary the accel/decel rate.

Does the USB indicate that it is the Galil USB port?

I have never had success with the 2030 running serial communications. I would check device manager to see if the USB is recognised and troubleshoot that area first.

Closed loop is only valid for a servo system. You must select one of the stepper types in the plugin.

If using Galil tools, can you jog into a limit switch and then back off OK? If so then it is likely that you have some Mach settings such as jogging direction set incorrectly. The limits might also be set to the wrong state active high or low in the plugin. But until you verify that everything works using only Smartterm or Tools, you won't know for sure.
I keep the home switch very close to one of the limits as it makes setup and operation much easier.

The jumpers are no longer used. You set the motor type to +/- 2 or +/- 2.5 to select active high or low step and direction.
Please look at "MT" in the manual.
