Galil / Re: GalilInit
« on: March 13, 2012, 02:05:44 PM »
Galilinit.txt will send the commands upon startup, but they will disappear when the first reset is sent. You would be better served to have them in a downloaded Galil file which is burned into the controllers' memory and started with #AUTO as the first line. That way it will be run after any resets. Please remember what I said previously about MPG and that it uses gearing for its functions. It will stomp on any axis that Mach knows about unless the axis slaving is done within Mach.

Only way that can be made to work is to use a controller with 7 or 8 axes so Mach won't see them.

Sorry, It won't work out that way. Galil commands won't help you here.

You must use Mach3 to set up the axiis slaving, otherwise it will not survive the many resets that happen. Also the
MPG uses the gearing functions, but it checks Mach3 slaving settings and won't overwrite them.

I have aa few machines running with them. Just be sure to use plugin version 4.4 or earlier. You'll also need to hunt down an  ISA bus computer.

I would not wire the homes to ground. I would suggest connecing them to the plus limit switches though. You gave the clue when you said that your limits were wired normally closed.  That meane that when not triggered, the signals were connected to ground through the switch, so jumpering the minus limits to ground tells the Galil that there are no limits triggered in the negative direction. You'll need to use the homes and check them off in the plugin so that they will initialize Mach properly at start up.

Cheers,
Kenny

You'll need to jumper the negative switch inputs of the Galil breakout board to ground. That should correct the problem that you are seeing.

Yes, you could, but I would rather have the outputs available for other uses. You could possibly use 4 of them along with a digital to analog chip, but you would still need to isolate the converter and its ground from the VSD. I have let lots of smoke out that way.

Sorry, but the Galil does not provide for that feature. You would need an additional axis to provide that function. You could add a RIO and use the analog output on that, but I think that another Axis would be cheaper.

The serial link is way too slow for Mach3 use. That goes for all other Galil controllers too.
You can open Mach3 and thel open SmartTerm to check settings etc.
That may help you. I use it for debugging all the time.
